In 2023, the AFC Asian Cup is expected to hold its next competition. On June 4, 2019, immediately before the 69th FIFA Congress in Paris, France, China was named the successful bid. The original date range for the competition was 16 June through 16 July 2023. Australia, Indonesia, Qatar, and South Korea were the four countries that made bids. Australia eventually withdrew in September 2022, while Indonesia withdrew on October 15. The AFC declared on October 17 that Qatar had won the bid and would host the competition. 24 international teams will compete in the event, which will run from 12 January to 10 February 2024. The opening match will be held at Lusail Stadium on January 12.
